hello again, tentacles

Posted by UkraineJane, 10.05.2009, 18:33

life caught up with me today. in the midst of blindly busy people, i was slowly slithering through the day. one small comment brought up all those gnarled tentacles that rested inside into rapid motion. i had to close my eyes, smile and deceive the narrator that i was not bothered at all. i pretended well for the next several hours, then hid away and savored those tentacles moving and coming up my throat. life is beautiful

The Wait
(Rainer Maria Rilke, translated by A. Poulin)

It is life in slow motion,
it's the heart in reverse,
it's a hope-and-a-half:
too much and too little at once.
It's a train that suddenly stops
with no station around,
and we can hear the cricket, and,
leaning out the carriage door,
we vainly contemplate a wind we feel
that stirs the blooming meadows,
the meadows made imaginary by this stop.
