witchland

everything else might have turned into stone, but i madly love this city of honesty. it is so different on a weekend sunny morning. i walked out and right away ditched the idea of the cab. instead i took a walk and rode the subway with a bunch of mad tourists who are up at 9am on a sunday morning. the detour road took me by my bakery and the mud coffee shop. i could not but grin the whole way because of how much i love this city.
i should be shaken up and weirded out by the past 24-72 hours, but everything is so foggy and surreal. the only two things that i remember well are my yesterday's swim lesson with durga and today's walk in the morning.

badwebdesigning, reading books and playing with Marc Chagall all day.
i want this book. chagall and kandinsky are madly similar to me. i want to know all the details of WHY. E.g. why did they see the world in a similar manner, where chagall's friend soutine saw in a totally different way?

postmodernism kicked in, and i loved it. if only the law of dinimishing marginal utility did not bother kicking in as well smile.gif tis ok, we will fight and make it retrieve. wish us luck. we are on a mission. we are optimistic, and we care.

commanding hights

Posted by UkraineJane, 29.12.2007, 7:50 in подалася по світу

i was told to watch "Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy". It is a brilliant piece on the battle of Hayek's and Keynes's ideas. I am profoundly enjoying it.
you see, i have no particular emotional attachment to private or government property; whichever is more efficient goes (we know which one by now). what worries me is the impact on the people. is it ok to be Ms. Thatcher sometimes, or should we cater every citizen? Not that Stalin was particularly soft either. I guess implementation and economical ideology are not direct implications of each other.
i need to think about all this. another change of ideology, or what?

dav says these things inspire. to me this gave some calmness and peace, that is for sure.
Bjork sings,
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotised by the Whirl

or i am just a plain witch with a mechanical heart, a bad version of Pris of some sort. whose fault is that, and is there a way back? i've seen hopeful endings in much worse cases, thus let us not give up.

i will feed one young mind with the most beautiful movie i have seen. The Blade Runner, that is. Hope it goes down well with some dinner smile.gif

i have been sick for the past month or so. yesterday my mom called and gave me a deadline to get better in 3 days. we are on it, mom!
---
i need some fresh imagery for poetry and some fresh pictures. i am sick of photoshopping dav's portraits.

karsh kale

Posted by UkraineJane, 15.12.2007, 19:45 in подалася по світу

Yesterday for the first time in my life I went to see Karsh Kale play tabla live. Consumed by the sounds and the way Karsh's hands moved, I completely zoned out. As a friend has kindly put it, I "looked comatose." biggrin.gif
You can hear some of the works and buy them directly from this composer, producer, drummer and DJ on his MySpace . Have a glimpse of what happens when this man makes sounds.

The Wait
(Rainer Maria Rilke, translated by A. Poulin)

It is life in slow motion,
it's the heart in reverse,
it's a hope-and-a-half:
too much and too little at once.
It's a train that suddenly stops
with no station around,
and we can hear the cricket, and,
leaning out the carriage door,
we vainly contemplate a wind we feel
that stirs the blooming meadows,
the meadows made imaginary by this stop.
